Why every account starts with a parent
Published on 15 September 2026
Children never sign up on their own. Here is why we built it that way, and what it means for your family.
Most apps for teenagers let anyone sign up with an email address and a birthday that nobody checks. We decided early on that our school would work differently: every child's account is created by a parent or guardian.
What this looks like
When you sign up, you create your own parent account first. From there you add each child and choose:
- a nickname, so nobody sees your child's real name
- one of our preset avatars, so there are no photos
- a password your child uses to log in
You can change any of these, reset the password or delete the account whenever you like.
Why it matters
Children deserve a place to learn where the adults in their lives are part of the picture. Parent-first accounts mean you always know where your child is learning, and you decide what they share. Leaderboards, for example, stay private until you switch them on.
It also means there is simply no way for strangers to reach your child: there is no chat of any kind.
What your child still decides
Plenty! Your child chooses what to build, how their projects look and when they are ready to ship them to their portfolio. Being safe and being creative go together.
